I have accounts with both banks and was happily using Monzo for pretty much everything including my wages. But I’ve since heard they’re notorious for closing your account without warning so I think I’ll move over fully to Starling instead. Is this something you’ve heard about?

The pay bills from pots feature puts Monzo way above any other bank for me. I used to have a seperate current account for bills but its so much simpler being able to put the money in a pot and have all the bills paid automatically from that pot.

Having had a joint account with Lloyds Bank for over 25 years, I have finally ‘flipped the table’ with them and will be moving bank accounts as loyalty seems to stand for nothing with them.

So I am therefore considering Starling or Monzo, however do you know if both offer the 7 day switch service to do this for me as the thought of manually changing all SO’s and DD’s is not very appealing.

Hi, interesting analysis as I have been interested in the growth of the challenger banks for a number of years. Could I suggest that adding in a comparison to Revolut would be worth while given the ground they are gaining in terms of customer numbers. What do they offer that makes them so attractive and how do they stack up to Monzo and Starling?

In reply to Phil S.. Hi Phil. Thanks for your comments here. You are absolutely right, however the rate you have quoted applies only to EUR accounts. For UK accounts the interest rate of 0.05% AER on positive balances up to £85,000 is correct.

It may be a good idea to update the comments about Startling paying Interest…
“One of the advantages of Starling Bank over Monzo is that Starling Bank pays you interest on any balance up to £85,000. This is paid on your entire balance including any money in your main cash pot area and any money stored safely in your pots.”
This is no longer true – in fact you pay them interest on balances over €50,000…
“No credit interest on positive balances up to or equal to €50,000.
-0.5% AER on positive balances above €50,000 (i.e. interest is charged on the account).”

In reply to Joy. Hi Joy, You can pay cash into your Monzo account at any store which displays the PayPoint logo, and pay cash into a Starling account at any Post Office branch. I hope this helps and you enjoy your new account!
